The Felton Project

Programming

My first commercial program was written in 1978 using Fortran for a USFS lab and ran on their new Data General machine. The program's input was inclinometer readings obtained from holes drilled in the slopes high above Redwood Creek in Humboldt County, CA. The program's output was a series of plots for each hole showing the downhill ground flow at various levels above the surface. The program was completed in less time than allocated by the Forest Service. The information was used by scientists at the lab; ultimately the Redwood Creek area became part of a new national park.

I have a long history with disc drives. I began my career as a customer engineer for IBM, where I won awards for the excellent service I provided to IBM's customers. In the sixties I became a technical specialist for MAI Corporation in the Chicago area and received training on an innovative disc drive manufactured by Memorex Corporation. Soon I had an international air travel card and was diagnosing and repairing disc drives around the world. In the seventies I became a factory field representative for Memorex Corporation and continued expanding my knowledge and experience of disc drives and the tools needed to develop and maintain them. In the eighties I left field engineering and started programming. After working for several small companies doing various projects using several languages, I became an employee of Seagate Corporation. Here I stayed for eleven years creating and maintaining software tools used in the design and manufacture of Seagate disc drives in Scotts Valley and Singapore. I am a toolmaker. I understand the needs of drive design engineers and I enjoy creating innovative tools to satisfy those needs.

I have been designing and building web sites since 2001. Several implementations have required database and server side programming skills. Please contact me for further information.
